The risks of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in relation to your pension
Whilst we understand that AI could be useful in some situations, for example, to explain technical terms, answer general questions or help you order your thoughts, using AI comes with a number of risks, including:
- The information provided can be incorrect, incomplete, confusing or misleading. Outputs will not be tailored to you, your personal circumstances or Scheme specific rules, benefits and /or practices. It could therefore lead to you misunderstanding your pension and to you making poor financial decisions.
- Some AI models are trained on the information inputted and your data could be provided to other individuals in the future. Your data could also be compromised in the event of a cyber incident. You should therefore avoid entering any personal details into AI.
If you need information about your benefits, please contact Capita, and if you need support with any financial decisions, please consult a qualified adviser. AI cannot replace either of these services.
Please also note that there is also an increase in AI being used by scammers, to create documents or messages that make them appear legitimate. For more information on how to stay safe online and avoid scams, see previous member newsletters and website posts on the Scheme website.
