Trustee Board
The Trustee Board are responsible for the proper running of the Reuters Supplementary Pension Scheme. Its duties range from the investment of assets to the correct payment of benefits. At all times it acts in line with the Scheme’s Trust Deed and Rules and in the best interests of all of the Scheme's beneficiaries.
The SPS Trustee Board is made up of six Trustee Directors including the Chairman. Four of the Trustee Directors are nominated by the pension sponsor and two are nominated by the Scheme members.
Catherine Redmond
Chair of Trustee Board & Independent Trustee
I am an experienced independent professional trustee with over 30 years’ experience in the pensions industry. Early in my career I qualified as an actuary, and worked with an employee benefits firm on a variety of domestic and international employee benefits assignments. I then held senior roles in the executive management teams of two of the largest private sector pension schemes in the UK – the Barclays UK Retirement Fund and the BT Pension Scheme. Since becoming a Professional Trustee in 2017, I have represented BESTrustees on a number of schemes, primarily in the financial services sector, and with assets ranging from £200m-£20bn. My appointments include chairing of the London Stock Exchange Group Pension Scheme and the Reuters Pension Fund. I am a fully accredited member of the Association of Professional Pension Trustees.
Rachel Croft
Independent Trustee (COMPANY NOMINATED)
I am a statutory director of Independent Trustee Services Limited (ITS) trading as Independent Governance Group over 20 years’ experience in pensions, I represent ITS as Lead Director on professional trustee appointments in relation to pension schemes with assets between £25m and over £2bn. I am a fully accredited professional trustee with the Association of Professional Pension Trustees (APPT), qualified Solicitor, Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute (PMI), and have extensive experience at a senior level of working with pension scheme trustee boards and sponsoring employers, from listed companies to privately owned businesses in a range of scenarios. Prior to joining ITS I was UK Governance Leader for Mercer’s Retirement Business. I am an enthusiastic and active contributor to pensions industry thought leadership and a regular speaker on webinar panels. I am also a member of the APPT Council, where I particularly focus on external affairs, having regular interaction with TPR and the Department for Work and Pensions.
Jeremy Penn
Trustee Director (Member Nominated)
Jeremy Penn has been a Trustee of SPS since May 2015. He is also a Trustee of Royal Museums Greenwich and Chairman of the Marine Society and Sea Cadets (MSSC). He was Chief Executive of the Baltic Exchange from 2004 to 2016. He worked at Reuters Group PLC from 1981-2001 in a range of positions specialising in technology and marketing related to financial information as well as in general management. He read English at Oxford University and later attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
Geoffrey Sanderson
Trustee Director (Member Nominated)
Appointed as a member-nominated Trustee in 2017. In a career of 21 years with Reuters until 2001, I managed technical and development projects, and held a wide range of leadership positions in technical operations, regional business in the Nordic countries and UKI and global products. Since 2001, I have held directorships in a number of companies in the financial services sector and am Chairman of a registered Charity for projects in developing countries.
Mike Sayers
Trustee Director (Company Nominated)
I have been a company nominated Trustee of SPS for about 20 years. I joined Reuters in 1977, worked in London and New York, and was the first Chief Technology Officer. I retired in 2005.
Martin Vickery
Trustee Director (Company Nominated)
I was appointed as a company-nominated Trustee of SPS in 2013. I am presently Chair of the Projects Sub-Committee. I worked for Reuters for 32 years in a number of management positions which included assignments to Singapore and Bahrain before retiring from the Company in 2004 as Global Head of IT services. As a Trustee, I network extensively attending pension discussion groups, presentations, training sessions and exhibitions.
